News! 22 September 2009: Microsoft has acquired deep industry functionality for manufacturing, distribution, retail, and services, so these industry capabilities are now at the core of a single, standard solution for Microsoft Dynamics AX.

This latest announcement is part of the Microsoft Dynamics® AX strategy and road map for building industry functionality into the core product. Part of what's driving this evolving strategy is the goal of increasing our partners' success by providing better opportunities to package and license complete solutions with the vertical functionality and assured performance your customers need.

Research conducted by IDC in 2009 shows that Microsoft Dynamics AX partners achieve higher levels of profitability by focusing on delivering select industry offerings, including packaged vertical solutions, with the flexibility to fit customers' changing business needs.

Microsoft Dynamics AX delivers a rich industry foundation on which partners can build packaged vertical applications to provide customers with high-value solutions relevant to their individual market. These strong industry capabilities deliver breakthrough innovation in key industries—manufacturing, distribution, retail, services, and the public sector. Learn more about specific industry solutions below.

What does this mean for customers? Customers tell us they need a standardized solution that fits their business processes in their specific vertical. Because customers in the high-end of the midmarket often are organized across multiple countries with business models and processes that cross industry boundaries, Microsoft is committing to a stronger industry foundation in Microsoft Dynamics AX. This optimizes the way we work with partners to cater to the specific vertical needs of these customers. We strongly believe customers can benefit from a single solution because it enables the organization to move ahead with changes in business models and business processes without waiting for the ERP solution to catch up.

What does this mean for ISV partners? ISV partners now have more opportunities to increase profitability by developing repeatable vertical solutions that offer high value to customers with shorter time-to-market and lower initial investment. ISVs can then support marketing efforts by gaining Certified for Microsoft Dynamics certification for their packaged solutions.

What does this mean for resellers? A single, standard platform enables resellers to perform faster, more predictable implementations and upgrades, which helps improve margins through increased volume and improved revenue per full-time equivalent (FTE). In addition, resellers can reduce implementation risks with repeatable, packaged vertical solutions designed to work with the industry functionality built into Microsoft Dynamics AX. With vertical templates added to Microsoft Dynamics Sure Step, implementations are easier. Specialized training will be available to help resellers capitalize on new vertical opportunities.
